会计师（accountant,缩写acct）指具有一定会计专业水平，经考核取得证书、可以接受当事人委托，承办有关审计、会计、咨询、税务等方面业务的会计人员，如中国的注册会计师，美国的执业会计师(certified public accountant)，英国的特许会计师（chartered accountant），日本的公认会计师等。在西方国家，会计师是自由职业者。在中国，会计师又是会计干部的技术职称之一。
总会计师条例第二条规定，“全民所有制大、中型企业设置总会计师；事业单位和业务主管部门根据需要，经批准可以设置总会计师。总会计师的设置、职权、任免和奖惩，依照本条例的规定执行”。
